Award Criteria

Nominees must be residents of Zion, Beach Park, or Winthrop Harbor. Nominations must be made and seconded by individuals who live or work in Zion-Benton. At least one of the two nominators must be 18 years of age or older. Submit via email the name, city of residence, and a contact number for both the nominee and nominators, and identify nominator qualifications as necessary (i.e. school principal). Include in the subject line the name of award. All contact information obtained will be for the sole purpose administering the award. Along with contact information, please submit a 300-word or less description of how the nominee meets the criteria for the award (below). Be sure to include any specific qualifications (i.e. GPA for Academiczz Award, Secondary). Photos are welcomed as email attachments.
Nominations are due by the 15th of the month to be awarded for the following month. Any nominations received beyond the 15th will be considered as entries for the subsequent month’s cycle. Awards will be announced by the 10th of each month.
Citizzzenship Award
Nominees should exhibit service to their community through volunteerism, advocacy, or financial support for programs that contribute to the welfare and beauty of Zion and surrounding areas.
Jr. Citizzenship Award
Nominees under 18 years of age who meet the criteria listed under the Citizzenship Award.
Bee A Hero Award
Nominees are individuals who, by their words or deeds, are an inspiration to the nominator. Nominees are examples of incredible strength, courage, or compassion.
Zion Parentzz Award
Nominee must be a parent or guardian of a child under 21 years-of-age. Nominees are model citizens who act as loving mentors to their own child(ren), as well as to other children of the Zion community.
Academiczz Award (Elementary)
Nominees are elementary or middle-school students who have been nominated by at least one teacher, principal or other school official for their academic effort and excellence. In addition, nominees exhibit qualities of leadership and civility in all aspects of their student careers.
Academiczz Award (Secondary)
Nominees are high-school students who have been nominated by at least one teacher, principal or other school official for their academic effort and excellence. In addition, nominees exhibit qualities of leadership and civility in all aspects of their student careers. Nominees must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Student Sportzzman Award
Nominees are athletes who have been nominated by at least one coach/athletic official for demonstrating good sportsmanship, team spirit, and courage. Athletic accomplishment is considered, but is not the basis for this award.
We are currently seeking prize donations from local businesses as awards for our V.I. Bees. Business owners who donate monthly prizes will have the opportunity to judge submissions and will receive space for free advertising on this page as a contest sponsor.
